Anybody have any load data for the 525 gr. slugs using lil' gun, longshot or any of the newer powders on the market? I've gotta start working on some slug loads for this coming season but don't have any of the older powders on hand to start working with and I just about have to wait for a local gunshow to get powder at a reasonable price...2 months away.
Thanks,
Mike
Mike, if you check the newer load manuals for recipes using the newer powders, you can swap the loads for a shot load of equal or slightly heavier weight. We've learned that a slug loaded with the same charge and components as a load of shot produces much less pressure than the same components with shot or buffered shot.
Dixie Slugs has some load data on their slugs using Alliant Steel over at their webpage...
http://www.dixieslugs.com/dixieslug.htmlI hope this helps you out some. IF you haven't sorted out a recipe yet, you can get loaded hard cast slugs from Dixie Slugs for both rifled and smoothbore 12ga shotguns.
Their newest load is called "X-Terminator" and it's a 730gr hard cast slug @ 1400fps for fully rifled barrels. AWESOME!
GOOD LUCK!
