new Handi went hunting.
« on: March 12, 2005, 05:42:43 PM »
Well the new 7mm-08 is a great shooter! I have some loads that seem to work well with the 115 gr. speer hollow points. But I have had two cases stick in the chamber.  So I will have to go back to see if I can find that one in the FAQ page to see what else I need to do to it. Got out this A.M. at about 5:30 and had the Handi all decked in white "vet wrap" I must say it looked good. My buddy Taz did all the calling today and he saw "something" out in the middle of a field where he was sitting but I was facing the other way, I heard him doing that lip squeek like it was prom night over there but he couldn't bring it in close enough. We had two stops after that that were just nice walks in the snowy woods but the fourth stop was encouraging to see fresh tracks. Then when we got in to where we wanted to set up I went over to a fence row and saw a grouse sitting right where I was supposed to set so I dropped my knee pads and started to kneel and it got up slowly and just walked away kind of slow like. (-10 degrees) when we started a few hours before. But that was the best thing I saw all day a grouse at about 5 feet. and it didn't fly. just wandered off.   But about 10 minutes later Taz started shooting off in the direction I couldn't see. He had a yote on the run and that little .17 was just a spittin out lead. I was REEEAAALLLY hoping it would come over to see the new handi. But if you call having a great day out in the snow seeing deer, grouse ,crows, a "something" and a coyote getting skunked I guess we got skunked. But what a fun morning. Wish I could have posted a "look what I shot" but maybe next time. - Brent
