Living room target practice......
« on: September 10, 2004, 01:54:30 PM »
Does anyone else use one of Tanfoglio's air soft pistols for target practice in their living room? These things are fun! And good practice for  flinching/trigger control/dry fire.... with the added benefit of hitting a target while sitting in an easy chair.

The 6mm plastic balls do have a tendency to end up scattered all over the room... even if a towel is used for a backstop.

I think this coming winter won't be as boring as last year!

Yep, I gotta agree, they look and feel like the real deal, not a bad trigger for a toy gun and they shoot pretty well, so far this year mine has accounted for two trap wary mice!   :-D

Dan, the max range I've gotten from mine is about 60 yards, so from 15 ot 20 feet they have a pretty good pop.

I need to amend my previous post, I do not have an AirSoft pistol, I have a PowerLine AirStrike by Daisy.

ButlerFord? I was wondering if I had bought a defective air-soft pistol since mine will only shoot 50 feet... with a tail wind! But they do work well in discouraging pesky stray cats and dogs without doing any permanent damage. Yah, yah, some people prefer to use a real firearm on strays but I'm soft hearted and love animals.

Hey Nut, I've seen it advertised as having a range of appx 20 meters, but I can sit on my front porch and send the neighbors dog home and keep his attention across my yard, across the highway and into his own yard if I shoot it like an artillery piece.  After about 30 yards it starts a curve and you have to "walk" the rounds in, but you can see them and it's a lot of fun without harming the neighbors dog.  At  20 feet and under, it packs a good bit of punch.  My first mouse was just "dazed" and I tossed him outside, the second was a good clean kill, blood and everything!  I kinda miss the little buggers sneeking around for target practice.

I don't use any of those toys, but used to do living room practice with revolvers using the Speer plastic bullets.  It was a blue plastic bullet in a red plastic case.  Loaded it with a primer only just by pushing it in by hand and then hand feeding the the bullet into the case.

Worked pretty good against a soft loose cloth backdrop that catches them and they drop to the floor.  It let you practice in the house with the revolver you were going to carry or use in the house.

I like that idea Tom, sounds like fun too. but these things are silent and the little plastic pellets are reusable.  For the price of a thousand primers, you can get the gun/pellest/targets/target trap.

Lets not overlook a decent quality .177 air pistol. Most "target' airpistols have good triggers and will shoot one hole @10meters. ( Forget those cheap Co2 look a likes!) A backstop can be as simple as a cardboard box filled with paper.  I set up a airpistol range in my basement 8-9 years back. I started shooting/practicing while the wife and kids were asleep and/or any time I walked through (sometimes for just a shot or two). Can't say enough for what it did for my other handgun scores!

p.s. while there are certainly better , a daisy 717 will yield excellent performance for well under $100.

Yep yep and yep, ya gatta watch those plastic primer powered one thou they dont slow down much for drywall and they'er kinda loud but very accurate. also you have to clean often cause they will gum up the bore pretty quick.
