6.5x55 1896 Swedish Mauser that I sporterized. I installed scope mounts, low safety, bent the bolt, cut and recrowned the barrel, cut back and refinished the stock.
This rifle is in the posession of my sister in law who needed a deer rifle several years ago. I finally caved and sold it to her. Been kicking my but ever since. While I had it I killed half a dozen deer, a black bear and two feral hogs with it. Excellent caliber and rifle.
This is a Norinco SKS that I made up as a ranch rifle. It is 7.62x39 of course. I reworked the trigger group, opened up the ejector port, stoned and angled the ejector, installed K-Lock quick disconnect scope mount, Simmons wide angle 4x rubber armored scope and a Bell and Carlson synthetic stock. It is a very accurate and reliable rifle with the proper ammo. I have fired 1.5" groups at 100 yards with this rifle off of sand bags.
I don't use it much for deer although several freezer meat does and one small buck have fallen to it. I often use it as loaner rifle when I place folks on stands where they can not see much beyond 50 yards. It mostly sees duty as a walking varmit gun and it is death to ground hogs and wild dogs that plauge my farm and hunting lease.
