Does anyone have any experience with the Thompson Center Arms RP 2.5x20 Electra-Dot scope? I found one used in good shape - Is it worth buying? What is a reasonable price to pay? What kind of recoil will it stand up to?

Because I really enjoy talking to myself, I'm going to post what I've found out about this scope so far.....

Not much to be found on the www, so I called T/C and talked to one of the guys in the shop.

The TCA RP2.5x20:
- was produced 12-15 years ago,
- was made for TC by LensCrafters.
- Takes a 675 series 1.5V battery found at Staples/WalMart
- Dot is illuminated along with the horizontal bars.
- In top condition is worth $150-$200,
- the new ones today sell for $295+
- Is capable of 'very heavy' recoil

Thanks for the info. I haven't ever dealt with the electra dots at all, but at least I'll know what I'm looking at if I come across one.

I've got one of the same scopes only mine is 3X. It's been on the job about 10-12yr and is still performing marvelously( I was just trying to see if I could spell that big word...but it does fit.) The scope rode around on my son's 7-30 for a long time. I'd consider the 7-30 as a medium kicker, but it has endured a lot of rounds on that barrel. The lighted recticle really helps these old eyes in low light. GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt :grin:

Walt: What are the specs on the battery? I know its a 1.4V battery is about all. Does it take 1 or 2? What is the modern part number?

I mentioned above that the T/C shop told me it took a 675 series 1.5V battery, but when i unscrewed the battery cap today it said it takes a 1.4V battery, model #NR44. Distresses me a little that Wal Mart doesn't have or know how to cross reference the NR44....

Ok, mine takes one and it says " Everyready 357 ". Hope this helps.

Radio Shack cross referenced the NR44 to their PN 2300077 Which looks to be a 675 Series.

Ol' dummy didn't think to look inside the cap last night. Like yous...NR44...1.4V. The 357 number that I gave you earlier came off the battery itself and I take it to be EverReady's model #. GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt :oops:

I stopped at the Wal-Mart Pharmacy this morning on my way to work. Picked up a 16 pack of Eveready 675 hearing aid batteries. Put one in the scope and it lights up nice and purty. Mission accomplished.

Well, I left out the part that it came on a contender G1 frame with decent mounts and a mint 12" TCA 45/70 GOVT with factory brake. The whole enchilada was $399 out the door. How'd I do?
