Digital Scale for Weighing Rifles
« on: March 08, 2005, 02:58:19 PM »
Hoping that someone out there can recommend a digital scale appropriate for weighing rifles in for big matches.

We're putting on the Pa state match this year and need a scale similar to the one used at Ridgway.

Thx!

Try this site.

We use the old model that is accurate to .5 oz. This scale is good to .1 oz. I think. It6 is great for weighing parts like stocks, barrels, actions etc.

GG

You might want to contact Marvin Pearson -- metalhead on here -- and ask him what he uses. He brought it to last year's PeEll match and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I didn't ask him what it was or what he paid for it.
You can google him in Chehalis, WA and get a phone# or just PM him -- assuming that he doesn't read this and post a response.

Digital Scale on eBay

GG,

Go to ebay.   In the search box type in digital scale.

You will find a number of digital scales available for under $40, including shipping that should suit your needs.

The scale I have is a Kubota LA-230.   It's a digital deli counter scale like you would see in your local supermarket.

It has a 14.5" x 11" tray and weighs to .01 lbs.   Thats roughly 5/32 of an ounce.

I'm not much of a betting man but I would be willing wager 25 cents that you're not going to get one like this for 40 bucks....even on E-Bay...

I borrowed this thing several years ago from the local gun shop.  Sorry,  I don't know what the original cost was.....Marv

While we are all sure that everyone has pure hearts, the Ronal Reagan principle still applies, especially with trigger weights in hunter rifles... "Trust, but verify"

That was a variation of the Bret Maverick (for those old enough to remember him) principle:  "Trust everybody, but cut the cards." :D

I snagged a nice digital scale off eBay and it's worked great for me so far. Mine measures up to 35lbs to the nearest tenth of an ounce, and I think I paid about $25 total with shipping. Here's an auction of a scale just like mine, but I don't really recommend you buy that particular one because the shipping seems like a ripoff on such a small, lightweight item.

That should get you started, though.
