Anyone have a .222 Remington Magnum?
« on: August 12, 2004, 08:59:46 PM »
I wish someone still factory loaded the 222 mag, I love the old 700 222mag but I am forced to use a .222 Rem instead(I don't have room to reload) :(

I've never heard of the .222 Rem Mag? Might have seen it in Guns and Ammo. But that's about it.

Fishman,
I belive it was in 1991 they discontinued the 222 mag, which i think was another mistake that Remington made. I still have some brass for the 222
mag, Its like having GOLD. Have a good day............Joe.........

I agree with the mistake on Remingtons part for discontinuing and the 222mag brass being like "GOLD" I have less than 50 loaded up and It just tears me up to shoot em almost as much as it does not shooting them. :?

Maybe one day they will bring out the .222mag in a 700 Classic and reintroduce factory loaded .222 Rem. Mag., although I don't think so

Dear 7Mag,
I have an old Sako in 222 Rem Mag. Still shoots pretty good. Brass is "usually" available from Midway or Wideners. Spendy by comparison but that`s the price you pay for shooting an odd-ball discontinued case.

This is the second time this week that I saw something about 222Mag brass not being available (the other time was in a Shooting Times article).

Grafs (www.grafs.com) has the 222Mag ammo in their catalog for 22.99 per 100.  I assume it is still available since they just came out with their catalog.  I do not have one, but have thought about a Contender barrel before which is why I had checked on brass.

I these helps someone find some brass.

If I did that she would take it over too!
I would just be stuck with no room and less money :)

The best I can hope for is that I can buy all the guns, knives, optics, and (factory)ammo that I can (and can't) afford and she don't gripe a bit. Guess that's something special in itself.

you have room to reload; you just don't recognize it!    get a 4' by 4' piece of 3/4" thick plywood and mount an RCBS Partner press to it, and get a scale and powder measure and trimmer, etc. in a kit with the press.   put the scale away in a dresser drawer carefully when not using it; put the rest on the board with wood screws/lag bolts and use it lightly clamped to your kitchen table when momma is gone out for a while.   put the board/tools up out of reach by hanging them somewhere or leaning them against a wall somewhere in a closet or laundry room when not in use.     if you hinge the 3/4" board, making it three sections, it will fold up into a smaller, handier, suitcase-type of form that can easily be put into a closet.    think about it.........you can do it if you try.

See, it's easy..........and reloading as a hobby is well worth it!

Good luck.

7 Mag,
I gotta jump in here and tell every one about my new 222 Mag. I think i mentioned it in the last e-mail i sent you, But maybe not. Any way i picked up a like new out of the box a Sako Vixen with a leupold scope and hard case, sling and all the papers for it. I had been trying to get ahold of this rifle for about ten years and finally made it. It shoots dime sized groups at a hundred yds. Needless to say i'm tickled pink with this one.
I gave my son a Sako mod. 322 that marlin came out with in 1954, Bought it new when it first came out. I made a lot of money with it in turkey shoots. Well i guess i've rambled on enough for this time. Yall take care and stay safe..........Joe..........

I have an old 700 ADL in .222 Rem. Mag. Messed around with action bedding, recoil lug bedding,  floated the barrel and adjusted the stock Remington trigger. Groups went from "Unmentionable" to "Dime Killer" at 100 yards. Turned down a couple on the spot offers for it. It's a fun gun to shoot, accurate and very light recoil.

Remington made around 1,300 BDL's so if you ever find one in good shape, grab it.
