45-70 guide gun pistol grip question

hi
just picked one up- from canada-
it marked 1895G which is a guide gun yet has pistol grip?
never knew the came with pistol grip , thought they were all straight grip?
how loud are the ported? thanks

I didn't own the ported model 1895 45/70, but they were reputed to be very loud.  I believe they have been discontinued for that reason.  That and probably the porting wasn't really needed unless you were shooting very hot handloads and most folks don't shoot those hot loads.

My 1895 45/70 (which I wish I had not sold) was pleasant to shoot with mild loads, but was a real kicker with the hot ones.

Mine is a blued model with the ports, and I didn't find it to be all that loud. It does help keep recoil to comfortable levels with heavy loads. I'm glad mine has the ports. I prefer it to a non ported gun.  Bill T.
