I've only recently gotten into the Encore family, and now am compelled to
search for more barrels. :grin: I would like opinions please. Now I only have a 209x50, I plan to buy a deer caliber barrel, like a .270 or so, and
am also interested in a smaller centerfire cartridge to shoot at the range and coyotes. What caliber would you recomend, along the lines of 22-250, .204, etc. I will most likely do my own reloading once I get up and going. Looking for opinions on best cartridge, considering accuracy, economy, fun factor. Thanks!

I like my 22-250 barrel for varments. I would not get rid of it for the 204 Ruger. Now for a Deer rifle, I would go 25-06 to 30-06. But if you would like a gun that could handle both your varment needs and deer hunting needs a 25-06, 7mm08 or .243 may work well. Just pick you appropriate bullet.

For deer, man what do you like, and at what ranges will you be shooting?

? Anything from the .243 up. As for varmint that can go from day lite to dark also. I have varminit rifles form .17 AH to .257 Ack. 3 different 17 cal rounds, 5 differenr .22 cal. rounds and 2 different 25 cal. rounds and they all kill varmints. It also depends if your are going to reload or not, 5 of my varmint rifles are wildcats. Are you worried about the noise they make? My .17 AH is not to loud and shoots point blank to abt. 290 yrds., but if you don`t know what your doing it can be very harry to load for as presure jumps very fast in that round. The .223 is a good choice if you don`t reload as you can buy plinking ammo for it cheaper than any other varmint round, max point blank range abt 285 yrds. If your wanting long range with factory ammo the .204 or the .22-250, with the .204 haveing a slight edge on range and the .22-250 hitting a hair harder. The .25-06 is the factory equivellent of the .257 Ack. and will also work well as a deer rifle. If your looking for a flat shooting varmint rifle and a long range deer rifle in 1 gun the .25-06 would be an excellant choice if you don`t realod, but then so would the .243 and the 6mm Rem. You can go broke buying barrels for an Encore, but you`ll end up being able to shoot more different rounds that you could if you went broke buying rifles. :wink:

I have a 22-250, 30/06, and 209x50 barrels for my stainless encore. Hard to go wrong withthose three chamberings.

Looks like you are missing the 12 ga shotgun barrel and 12 ga slug barrel

Never could see to much use for single shot scatterguns, thats why they make pump guns.

single shot shotguns are great for young hunters or people just starting out.

I have the 22-250, 25-06 and 209-50 ML.

25-06 is a fast, flat bullet with much less recoil than the 30--06....switched years ago and have never regretted it.

Not saying the 30-06 isn't good, but I prefer the faster flatter 25-06 particularily in the 100 grain bullet....dropped a ton of muley's and Elk with that combo...never lost one and never had to track one.

I have the 209x50 7mm-08 and 25-06. I am happy with all 3
