I've wanted a Nylon 66 since I was about 12 and saw them in my dad's magazines. Well, I got a couple of beers in me and made the mistake of searching gunbroker.com for one. I have a "no evidence of ever being fired with almost nonexistent handling marks on it" on the way. Should be here this week. The problem is I want to shoot it!!! :gun4:

Is it sacrilege to shoot such a nice old weapon? It cost me $206 plus shipping and FFL so it wasn't cheap, but not outrageous either. When I told the seller I wanted it for a shooter he just said "That's good! That will make my other 18 worth more!" :)   Heck, it's a lot less than it would cost to spruce up my wally world 10/22 into being a good accurate rifle.  Actually I haven't tried the bullet spraying 10/22 since I got all the wierd chunks of "hardened grease"??  looking stuff out of the action.  -  Joe

You could buy 2 of the 66s so you could shoot one and have the other for a safe queen and still spend less money than a tricked out 10/22. :shock:  :D

200 hundred bucks is not a lot of money for a good used 22. Yea might be a bit more pricey than a used Ruger or Marlin or one of the other older semi autos but still for that price the guy did not get the dollars he is hinting it may be worth some day. If it was mine I would shoot it as I buy guns to shoot not sit and drool over like some collectors do. JMHO but if it was mine I would shoot it and enjoy it. Jim

Give it a good check out.  I bought a virtually 'new' looking Mohawk Brown Nylon 66 last year, and it looks to have been shot very little and never had a scope installed!  But - it gave me lots of problems at first, the feeding jamming constantly.  Turned out it was really cruddy inside.  Lots of dust and grunge from a couple decades of sitting in a closet, I think.  Not 'shooting grunge'.
Cleaned it up good, and now she shoots well.

My wife has one in the gun cabinet. Her grandfather bought it for her when she attended camp back in the 60's. Says she shot "almost a whole box of shells" with it.

I don't need another for a safe queen, my brother is the collector.  He ends up with all of the ones I buy, shoot twice, don't like, and sell off to him.  I don't even have a safe.  Just a room with guns up against the walls.  I did start buying cheap gun socks for them though.  When I bumped one and it made a dommino of guns falling over along a wall it got too ugly for me.  I will check it over for crud first.  The seller told me to use standard velocity ammo in it.  He said they don't like the tiny bullet high velocity stuff.  I've got about 3 550 boxes of Remington Golden Bullet ammo.  Since they were advertising GB's in the same ads as the nylons I hope it works ok.    I'm getting impatient, it should be here any day..:)   I promise not to put a 6x24 scope on it like I did to my NEF 17 Sportster...hahahah

This is the CHRISTmas present I wanted when I was 13, but never got.  I can't fault my dad though.  I was 13 when he bought me a Winchester 1200 pump.  32 years ago.  I understand it now, he wanted me to have a gun to go bird and deer shooting with.

Well I got the Nylon 66, and now I can't shoot it.  It's in very nice shape.  I used the local gun range for my FFL transfer.  When I went to pick it up the guy at the range said "It looks like it just came out of the box!"..  When I mentioned to him the tiny scrapes on the stock he said "those are just handling marks".  What's the difference?  Will a handling mark polish off with a cloth?   I took it down to the range to shoot last weekend but just couldn't do it.  I shot the NEF .17, Marlin 883 22M, and a piece of junk brand new 10/22 I have instead.  I'll probably keep it for a while, then sell or trade it for something that I can bring myself to shoot.  I'm a firm believer that guns are for shooting, but I don't want to put the first round through something this clean.  -  Joe
