City officials are considering gun-control measures-and once again appealing to state lawmakers in Harrisburg following a rash of murders that has left 23 people dead in 10 days.
Groups advocating gun-control say proposals to Mayor John F. Street and the City Council to restrict handgun permits and sales may not directly address the problem of illegal guns involved in most street crimes, but they would likely help to some extent.
More than 80 percent of the city's 78 homicides so far this year were commited by handguns police said.
That means the law-abidding people will be forced to hand their guns in, and the criminals keep theirs.
