Marble's Tang Peep Sight and 38-55 Target Rifle???
« on: March 16, 2005, 10:41:18 AM »
I am no fan of the Williams rear sight that came on my 38-55 Target rifle.  I am thinking about replacing it with the Marble's tang peep sight for the Buffalo Classic (Marble's Item No 9813).  I am assuming that the 38-55 Target rifle and the Buffalo Classic are the same except for the barrel.

Has anyone done this?  Any comments/guidance would be appreciated.

I want to end up with this  :-)  and not this

I it has been done. and yes they are the same gun. I am going to get that sight as well. I do need to call and see if I can find out how long the staff on that sight is. For the range I want, I have been told that I need a staff at least 3 1/2 inches long or tall as it may be. A gun smith in Montana has been installing them for some here. He puts in a false tang and mounts it to that. If the staff is not tall enough I may have to mount a riser of sorts to raise it up. I am going to call Midway and see what I can find out.
shot placement is everything.

Well I called midway who had me call Marbles who had me call Brownells. That sight adjust up and down from 1.068 to 2.015. That is not enough adjustment to shoot to 800 to 1000 yards. I don't know what range it would be good to but the Montanan would have a good Idea. I better go back to the drawing board and look for a taller sight.
shot placement is everything.

Thanks for the information.  I really appreciate it.  I think that the sight will work fine for me.  The longest range available to me around here is 600 yards and it is rarely available.  Generally I will be shooting at 300 yards and under.
