any one use a scout scope set up on a .22 rifle?
« on: July 26, 2005, 11:06:44 AM »
i have a swedish mauser with the burris scope. and a rossi puma .357 with a luepold pistole scope mounted in front of the ejection port. they are very fast to aim, and dont give up much practical accuracy. they also help balance the rifles.
i,m thinking of setting up a ruger 10-22 this way. has any one tried it?

I would guess the problems would be the mounts as I suggested before unless you made them. Most Scout scope set ups I see are for milsurps so you do not alter the gun permenately or guns like lever guns or those made that way from the factory. I guess I have never seen a scout set up for a 22 but it makes sense it is a darn good set up. I have them on a Swede Mauser that I made and One of Darrell' Mounts on a K31 and a Mosin Nagant that has a chinese copy of a Bsquare mount. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

aftermarket bull barrels are cheap! it would not cost much to have a weaver rail mounted to one. slap on a scout scope! and viola! scout rifle!
tell me that would not be the ticket for fast target aquisition!
been thinking about it for awhile. i have a donor 10-22???
i have used a bushnell holosight, on this gun, but i would like some magnification.

Yea thats true never thought about that I made my own scout mount for my Swedish Mauser by drilling and tapping a tube and epoxing that on to the barrel. I would bet the same mount I used a  weaver base for a Rem 742 or 740.  I bet that weaver base would fit the contour of the barrel then all you would have to do is drill and tap the barrel for the base. If you do not have a scope mounting jig for drilling and tapping recievers for scope bases I reccomend you have a gunsmith do it.  One thing it would be nice and low which is what you want. Jim
