Help with JB Bore Paste
« on: July 18, 2005, 04:26:14 AM »
I have heard good things about using JB Bore Paste and Kroil and wanted to try it on my new CZ 452 before it was fired.  Stuff seams to work but after 10+ patches passed back and forth 5-7 times with the JB, the patches still come out black.  Is this normal or should the patched eventually come out of the barrel the same gray paste color as they went in?  Didn’t want to go overboard with the stuff before I better understood its chemical characteristics/reactions with the barrel.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help with JB Bore Paste

That's normal, patches will come out black forever...30-50 passes, changing the patch and adding more JB often will do the job of polishing the bore before shooting it. I have JB'd or Flitzed all of my rifles, CZ452 17hmr included, before I shoot them, it's SOP. On the 17hmr and 204 Ruger, I use a Patchworm, I don't like the rod flex of the thin rods.

Tim....thanks for the help.  I got a Pro-Shot polished steel rod and bore guide to do the initial JB treatment and will change over to my Otis cable from here on.

Again thanks, Tom
