Hi Gang,
This is the final my new 25 Souper. As you may remember my old faithful was absconded with by a friend from Washington State. I built the new one on a highly modified Mod 600 Rem action. M-16 extractor, new handle etc,etc. I used one of Harry McGowans wonderful barrels in the lightest taper I could get. That, and the addition of a Kevlar stock kept the weight under 6.0 with scope. David Cason and Gary Champagne at Hilltop Gun Supply [478]885-2222.[ www.hilltopgunsupply.com] did an absolutely EXCEPTIONAL job on the Gun-Kote finish. I have had several of these jobs done in the past and wasn`t too awfully impressed until I saw the quality of Daves workmanship. I had seriously considered doing Gun-Kote myself but am limited by space etc here so am thrilled to have a quality applicator like Dave at my beck and call if needed and, BELIEVE ME!! He will be needed shortly.I had acquire a box of 500 of Remingtons Core-lok bullets on Ebay for something stupid and loaded up a few to fire-form and such for the range. Range testing revealed these el-cheapo 100 gr bullets shot well under an inch at 110 yds. The last three that were fired with full loads nestled into about 3/8. Don`t get me wrong! I like Rem bullets and will gladly use them in the field. I will try the other ones I normally use but heck, if the gun likes these bullets? So be it. This is going to be a neat rifle to carry and shoot. If anyone is thinking about getting your rifle/shotgun/whatever Gun-Koted?? Give Dave a call. I will GUARANTEE you`ll be pleased with the results, turn-a-round etc and the GREAT customer service.

Remember that inexpensive is not cheap....Big green probably has a machine as big as yer house spitting out bullets at an astounding rate to keep costs down.... Big .. heavy. expensive equipment tends to make the same product ... the same way, over and over ... ad infinitum Yea I use alot of rem. bullets ... No Complaints... once a quite a while back I shot my very best "officially recorded" group (3/8 in. at 100 yds off bags only) w rem bulk bulletys from midway... I will continue to use 'em. Marty

BTW been awhile since I even heard anything abt the souper .... cool ctg glad you brought it up got me thinkin'

Marty. I read your post with interest. I hope to build a custom gun from a left handed Rem 700 action short action. Not sure of the caliber. It will start as a .243, but I may change it to a .260 when the barrel replaced. My question to you is what is Gun Kote, and how does this compare to Teflon coating? As I am left handed, the Rem 700 CDL gun is the only one available in a short action, and it will have a satin blue finish. I plan on putting a stainless fluted barrel on it along with a composite stock, possibly the new ultralight from McMillian. Also, is the Gun Kote or Teflon worth doing on a satin blued receiver. I would have preferred to get a stainless gun, but could not find a short action. Thanks for your help. Curly

Dear Curly,
I recently had a rifle done in the same stuff that has a SS barrel and a blued receiver. The WHOLE rifle looks the same. The real beauty of the Gun-Kote is the durability! Kinda like the Mailman----Neither rain nor sleet nor snow Da-Da-Da. Holds up better than blueing and is just flat nice! Try it once and I think you`ll be hooked like me. Especially if you hunt in extreme weather sometimes.

Believe me I wasn`t bashing Remington ammo. I have handloaded for over 35 yrs and just load my own as a rule. Over the years I have found Sierra to be the most accurate for my likes, especially in the various 6.5s. I just dote on accuracy and was VERY happy when I discovered my new 25 Souper liked the Rem 100 grainers. Opens up doors for me. I`ll try the Sierras and Noslers but will most likely stick with the Remingtons unless the other bullets show me something VASTLY better which I doubt. Excuse me if you misunderstood my original post and thought I was slurring the Core-loks. I most assuredly wasn`t.

Oh Heck ... I was only voicing an opinion as an answer to what I took as a question.... I'm pretty thick so I certainly did not feel offended... just making an observation. BTW I know just abt zilch abt gun coatings that are not blue... and my 6mm-06 has not taken to Rem bullets ,, but it sure likes sierra 's hpbt match stuff.....

Back in the time frame that Browning was switching from mausers to what would be the Abolt I bought a rifle called a 'Lightening bolt'. It was an abolt with the sides left rounded. It was a 22-250 and was the pickyest thing you ever did see. Tried several tens of combinations of bullet/powder before I lucked on what it wanted. A Remington PLHP in 55 grains.. It's still not fantastic but many coyotes and other pests have 'went away' caused by the 22-250. Crows with a solid hit come down in fragments... With it I killed my longest coyote running,, at least 350 yards! Not bad for leaning against a tree in my slippers and shorts...Good thing I live in the country I suppose..
