:D Sweet - I have plenty of those ammo cans sitting around.  What are you putting in the back to prevent riccochets (spelling may be a bit dodgy)?

The best thing to use is Duct Seal. It comes in a block. It is a putty. You can pick it up at most plumbing stores. Or you can buy it on the net. In the picture I am using an old book with duck tape wrapped all around it. Do a google search for improved silent pellet trap.

Your excellent work with wire and duct tape indicates that you must have graduated cum laude from Georgia Tech.

Just kidding. I couldn't resist.

Nice job. I think that ammo can will work great. I wish I'd thought of it.  Some guys like to use Duct Seal as a back stop because it catches the pellets quietly and it will catch a lot of pellets before needing replacement. Duct Seal is cheap and is a hardware store item.

Airgun Express sells putty for silent traps. I don't know how the price compares.

To think that I've been using newspaper... the pellets sometimes bounce off, too!  :eek:


I'll look around for Duct Seal, if it's cheap enough I may have to make myself a new pellet trap. Is ducttape as a screen needed, or is that just because you had no duct seal??

Third Rail:

Having a barrier down there like the duct tape is a good idea because of the paper chaff that's cut out of targets by the pellets. Quite a lot of it builds up and while the barrier won't catch everything it will help.

The duct seal is plenty cheap, $8 for 5lbs of it. I think I may try making my new pellet trap this week, if I do I'll post pictures.  :-)
