Howdy from NC!
What a great site! I'm a longtime powder shooter since the age of 6. I have many powder rifles, shotguns and pistols, I reload all my ammo, but what drew me here was the dang airgun! I just recently bought a Daisy 1000 at WallyMart and was having a heck of a time! This spring gun shooting is a world of its own for sure! All of a sudden I'm hooked on this thing! Trying to make it shoot better/accurate. Lot of learning to do!

Welcome Doc,
I too have a few cartridge guns, but I'm having a ball with the RWS model 92 I just bought. Now I don't have to drive to the range! I can just step out to the backyard. This forum was a great help when I was looking to buy.

We're out in the country here but I needed something to dispatch a few vermin.. a few yrs ago it wasnt a problem, dig out the ole 22 and have at it. Now they have sold some farm land around me and what was once tobacco and cotton fields is now 30+ acre plots with million dollar homes. Dont want a stray 22 flying that direction! I've somehow become hooked on this thing! Its getting broken in, groups are getting better, figured out the scope sliding problem. This thing is a real test of ones marksmanship! I love it! Never would have thought there was as much difference between different types, makes and weights of pellets! Any hints or tips to make this thing shoot better is much appreciated. Read Lawdogs post on springer guns.. very nice. The more I shoot this thing, the better it gets. Not bad for a Wally Mart special.

My suggestion for the best pellet for your rifle is to purchase a pellet sampler. There are a number of them available in .177 caliber. Remember to try them at different ranges. Wad cutter/target type pellets tend to be more accurate ant ranges under 20 yards with domed pellets taking the edge at ranges over that. For hunting purposes I would suggest you try a good hollow point except on birds. For birds wad cutters seem to give the better average of one shot kills with less fly-a-ways(not good for neighbor relations especially in this day of West Nile Virus). Go to http://home.hiwaay.net/~ispellan/PelletTest02.html to view the Terminal Pellet Test that was done. Interesting results. For me I use nothing but H&N Match wad cutters and Beeman Crow Magnums for all hunting/target shooting in all of my air guns. Lawdog

Right now, its liking the Daisy Max Speed wadcutters, followed closely by the Winchester (also Daisy I guess) round nose hunting pellets. Hates the pointed pellets, Gamo magnum and Daisy precision max pointed field pellets. At 100 ft the Winchester and the wadcutters are neck and neck. Soon as I shoot all these up, I'll get some of the sample packs and compare those. After reading some of the reviews on this gun, its either love it or hate it.
