News flash today on my internet home page. Ahunter in southern Georgia shot a Hog weighing 1000 Pounds. He maintains a sight for hog hunting and while cleaning up after previous hunters he spotted this  enormous hog and dropped it with one shot. He then summoned his buddy with a back hoe to hoist it up. Pictures were shown. ....Horsefeathers.

I got an e-mail last week of a Flordia hog that went 1100#. They had it in a front loader and it took up the whole thing.

OLD NEWS. Very old news in fact. Happened maybe two years or more ago. I am amazed it keeps popping up as if folks think it just happened and have never heard it before. Details are VERY shaky and one has to wonder how much truth is hiding in the story.

If you get cable TV the National Geographic channel is airing a one hour show this Sunday evening at 8 EST on Hogzilla.   From what I have heard they will dig up the remains and do a CSI style investigation.  Should be quite a lot of fun, especially on a full stomach after Sunday dinner.  As long as the jet stream contnues to blow from the west most of the country should be OK.

I just watched this NG show. Researchers dug Hogzilla up & took measurements and DNA samples. They say it was closer to 8.5 feet and 800 lbs. DNA indicates it was a domestic/wild cross. Tusks are huge and form a full circle. They say it was still probably a record for a wild hog even though the length and weight had been exagerated.

Hogzilla was shot in the summer of 2004.  Yep, 8.5 feet and ca. 800#.  But wait, the old boy swore that they laid the tape measure on it "ryte thar" and it was 12 feet long!   :music:

I was disappointed that NG chose to go the sensatonal Hollywood route in producing the show.  It would have made a nice 30-minute documentary, not the bloated 60-minute piece.  The most interesting part of the Explorer show to me was the statement that a domestic hog can go feral in just a few weeks, and that in one generation its offspring will have different hair and snout length.

Why be surprised.  Things are kind of slow at National Geographic.  They need publicity too.  Lawdog
