Ruger #1 405Win.

I'm looking at buying a #1 in 405Win. any comments good or otherwise would be appreciated regarding the combination of a Ruger#1 chambered in 405Win.

Can't imagine that you would not be happy with it - as long as you reload. I think that the right load in this rifle, would give you sub-moa.

I own one and love it. Accuracy is excellent. The Barnes 300 grain X backed by 53 gr. Reloader 15  produces sub-inch accuracy. Velocity is right at 2250 fps. More than enough to down anything in NA. I modified the forearm on my rifle (The Ross Seyfried fix) before I shot it. However, I would think with the heavy barrel in this caliber, nothing needs to be done to the forearm. Try it first.  

The triggers on these guns are OK. A little heavy but mine has no creep. I have no problem with it. A different  hammer spring is available from Brownells, which may help lower trigger pull.

I also bought a NECG peep sight. I can hold 1 1/2 groups with this load at 100 yards.

Its a fun gun and I plan to take it Elk hunting this fall.

The light & medium Sporters, as well as (apparently) the Tropical models all have the A. Henry fore arm w/ the "cut".

The gent that I bought my #1S (45-70) from told me the term for that feature, but I can't quite remember. Senior moment.

The purpose for it is un-clear, but I've always felt that it was originally (waaaay back) designed for "shooting sticks" / aka portable bipod.

Maybe someone else can provide a little extra info.

What ever your feelings about the appearance of the fore arm, I can only recommend that you buy the rifle. The "cut" will grow on you.......

I believe you can also "change out" the Alexander Henry forearm (with the cut) for the other one (larger -without the cut) at your own expense.  I remember seeing an article a while back, I think it was John Sundra -who had done just that.  He like the other one better.  The barrel band was still in place and the stud for the sling protruded through a hole provided for it.  This was on a .375H&H model if memory serves, that had been rechambered to 375 JRS (akin to 375 WBY I think).

I am with gcf though.  My 458 has the A. Henry forearm and I love it, just give it some time.
