Swift Handgun Scope Question?
« on: March 22, 2005, 05:10:06 AM »
Need more power on my T/C G2 barrel, pistol, in 223 Rem. Looking at the Swift Scope on EA Brown site, fully multi coated 3-9X32 handgun for $186. I hear these are good scopes. What say you?
Thanks and Gig''em

I would say spend a little more if your can afford it and get a better quality scope such as a Leupold, Burris or Nikon. JMHO  :D

Have to agree with Redhawk...save up a few extra bucks and go with the Burris, Leupold, Nikon, or one of the better Bushnells.  Since it's  .223 barrel, I would go with a Burris 3-12x.  I believe that they have the highest magnification offered in a handgun scope, at least that's what I have on my .222 rem and it is an awesome setup for groundhogs and the like.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)

Why would you guys say save up for the Leupold when the Swift is "As good or awfully close to Leupold at 1/3 the price"  :P

That was a JOKE right    I would compare the Swift to the old tasco or simmons scopes, but the swift is the better of those three. No comparison to a Leuplod, Nikon or Burris.

Swift Handgun Scope Question?
« Reply #6 on: March 22, 2005, 12:28:20 PM »
I would say buy it. I have a 8x32 BSA Platinum on my Encore and my buddy has a 8x32 Burris. He paid 4 times what I paid, can't shoot any better and mine is still going strong after 7 years. I could have almost bought a second Encore with what I saved on the BSA. Does the target know the difference between scopes when they get hit by the bullet or  when you pay $300 instead of $150?

I have a mix of scope quality in my safe.  I prefer Burris pistol scopes but I have a few TC scopes as well.  Burris pistol scopes are bright and clear and have a little more field of view than the TCs.  They also have a great warranty.  Rifle scopes are a mixed bag of Tasco (old and new) Nikon, Leupold, Bushnell, and one BSA.  In general the more you spend the more you get.  I look for a couple of things.  I need the scope to be bright enough so I can hunt until quitting time.  Many inexpensive scopes get dark to quickly to be used in the last half hour or so.  I also want a clear scope all the way to its highest power setting.  Inexpesive scopes tend to get fuzzy at higher magnification.

One thing you can do to increase your chance of satisfaction with cheap scopes is to look through a few at the dealer.  One of the issues with cheap optics is inconsistent materials and quality control.  I picked through seven or eight BSA scopes before I found one that I liked.

Other issues are whether they hold the same poi for different magnificatons and if they hold up to recoil.  Quality (read expensive) scopes are supported by the manufacturer and will be repaired if they fail.  With the inexpensive ones you are frequently on your own.

Scope performance also depends on proper mounting and care, but that is another post that will get to long as this one has.

EDK was only repeating EBCO's claim concering the swift premier line of scopes. A claim that I have personally found to be true. IMO of course. I just ordered another swift premier from EBCO yesterday, a 2-7 riflescope. Regards, Byron

I paid around $200 for a Weaver 2x8.  I love it for my .223.  Collects light well and brings targets in close out to 250 yards (as far as I shoot).

Swift Handgun Scope Question?
« Reply #11 on: March 23, 2005, 04:24:14 AM »
I have been using BSA Scopes for 4 years now on my Silhouette guns.  The first one I got was a 3-12 BSA Contender.  It lasted 2 years, then the horizontal adjustment would not repeat.  I had a Lupold vx1 3-9 that I put on while BSA sent me another scope.  I was not happy with that one so they sent me TWO Platinum 6-24 scopes to replace it.  I kept the best one and sold the other one to a guy who wanted it on a hunting rifle.  I won 2ed AAA with that scope in our state match that year.  My score was 52 out of 60.  I was in a shoot off with another guy who had the same BSA Scope on his gun.  The Next year I got 1st AAA in the state match with the same scope.  That scope lost the horizontal adjustment this winter and is now on its way to BSA and they will send me some new ones to try.

I have sold the Lupold, I just don't like it as good as I do the BSA.  I have a Bushnell ScopeSmith 6-20 that I am using as a replacement right now but I can't get as good of groups, from a bench, that I have gotten with the BSAs.

Since I have been using the BSA scopes I have been shooting AAA scores, 30 to 35 out of 40, very consistently.  I have shot one 39 out of 40 with a BSA Scope, last summer.

Yes, you do get what you pay for, If you pay $300 for a lupold you may be satisified and never have to replace it but I paid $89 for my first BSA and the real cost is sending each one back and getting it replaced.  BSA has never questioned the reasons that I send the scopes back and they are always willing to go the extra mile to please me.

You can only hit the target if the barrel is pointed in the right direction when the bullet leaves the barrel.

Jeff223, Thanks for the offer but I already have four BSA scopes. I only have one VariX-II and even though it's nice, I would never buy another one. I got that one in a trade.
