What handgun and load do you fellas shoot when you want to reach 200-400 yards?  This is for play purposes only.  I wouldn't begin to think of shooting at game outside 75 yards for me.

I shoot a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt, 7 1/2 in. barrel and/or a Colt New Frontier in 44 Spl. with 7 1/2 in. barrel.

Lots of fun and it's amazing how accurate one can shoot at those distances with diligent practice.

I have used three guns for this sort of fun

1 .357 Ruger Blackhawk. I used both 158 and 170 (approximate) grain lead bullets for this.

2  .44 Ruger Redhawk with 240 grain lead bullets.

3. .44 Ruger Super Blackhawk with 240 grain lead bullets.

Shooting was done as Elmer wrote of it, sitting with back supported and the arms extended and resting on drawn up knees.

When in practice I would shoot at a water filled milk jug at 200 yards.  I often hit the jug on the first or second shot and rarely would need all six shots in the cylinder to achieve a hit.  Believe it or not! But I bet you wouldn't want to be holding the jug!

I shoot all my sixguns at long range but when i want to show off i take out the 44 bisley accursport. Its got a bowen rear and clements front sight and is the flat most accurate out of the box ruger ive ever owned. I shoot a balistic cast 300lfngc with 20 grains of wc820 I took first place in the long range shoot in the .44 class with it at the linebaugh seminar. I belive if i remember right we were shooting about 600 yards.

Scoped .41s in different makes but mostly Rugers if it is just for fun. When money is involved it is a 14 inch BullBerry Contender in .41RemMag. But the most fun to do this with is my Taurus 425SH4C. It is an absolute hoot to hit a gong at loooooooong range with that 4 inch super light DA gun.
Love those .41s'

I have shot that far with my SBH and with my Max.  200 meters for silouette shooting.  My DW has been shot to 550 yards at pig silouette target.  Took the full cylinder to hit it.

I just bought a Freedom arms model 83 with a 10 inch barrel in 454 casull with a 2.5x7 scope that should do pretty well . In the past i have used my ruger , Its a 7 1/2 inch stainless bisley in 45 colt that started as a standard blackhawk that I have done alot of mods to .  I also shoot contenders and the .223 and 7 TCU barrel does embarrass a few rifle shooters.

Poppinsplat, you've got the long range bear revolver there for sure!!  I shoot a 7 1/2" FA modle 83 using a 345 gr. cast WLN bullet and feel comfortable that I could take anything on the N. American continent (or at least the GUN could if my shot were good).

The farthest I can go at our range is 175 yards and I use old model 44 and 45 Rugers and p&r Smiths with wimpy loads. My gong is 14x18 and I can usually hit it once or twice out of a cylinder-full offhand. What a great sound that is. Gonna get practiced up with the 83 454 soon as it gets back with a 45 colt cylinder.
