I have a 6foot piece of seamed steel tube 5in OD and .625in wall thickness. It has a spindle friction welded on one end. What it is, is an Semi trailer axle. I can heat treat it, if it would matter. Any thoughts?

I think I would cut that welded end off and put in a threaded and pinned breech plug. The turn the contour on the outside so it looks like your favorite field piece.
Take a look at our cannon shooting safety STICKY at the top of this forum. The safety guidelines have minimum safety standards for building blackpowder muzzle loading cannons.
