With the ice out coming in a few weeks, I was wondering what you spring beaver trappers wear for foot gear.
In the fall when I am trapping several differant species,I wear waders.I tried hip boots twice on my fall line.Both times I ended up wet --to --the --waist.
When after just beaver in the spring,I am able to wear hip boots most of the time.This makes me feel as if--I am wearing --nothing at all lol.
I put a lot of miles on the waders in the fall,so when I get to do just the hip boot thing,it makes things so much easier.Now I do revert back to waders in the spring---but only if we get rain or a snow storm.

When I am trapping the creeks I wear LaCrosse insulated hip boots. Can't beat them. When I am trapping the ponds and swamps I wear LaCrosse waders that are not insulated. Both work well in each situation, but out of the water the hippers are the best.

Gotta have waders all the time. I am too much of a putz to wear hip boots.

Wont be long now Tom. Hope to fish like heck for three more weeks and than the beaver are in trouble.

This was my first year using chest waders and I'll never go back to hipboots. You can jump in and out of the canoe all day long and still keep your but dry. Tony

all i have ever used is hippers. but looking to get some waders do any of you have an opionion on the waist waders?

I wear hip boots, but there are time I wished I had another foot or so on top of them, especially walking in soft-bottomed ponds.
I am just too cheap to spend a little extra for the full waders.

even some of the small creeks here will leave hippers short on ya lol
i have found some holes that came up to my belt and was real happy i had my chest waders on.
don't even think about stepping in a farm pond in hippers the mud will have em pulled off in one step

Im about like Tom with waders and hippers... I like the neoprene waders as they have a little give in the knees and easier to get around in and up steep banks at the end of the day.... always seems i catch the biggest bvrs at the end of the check day and down the steepest bank or furtherest fm the truck..... I know Tom has a partner that carries ALL his bvrs LOL

I have both, but very seldom ever wear my chest wadders. I usually just wear my knee boots unless I'm beaver trapping and than I just switch back and forth. Got some rocky chest wadders this year, but don't like the tight ankle fit they have. Their wadders seem to be made for guys who are 400 lbs with size 7 feet. I guess its because they are made in china now, at least thats the only reason I can find for making a boot that you can hardly get on. I'd like to hear if anyone has any experience with the waist wadders that creekchub mentioned. They look like they would be a lot easier to work in than the full size chest wadder. Worm

I wear hip boots,I get wet enough so I don't have to waste trapping time bathing.If your feet don't squish when you walk how do you know you've been trapping?

Hip boots.I have tryed all brands. But I an STILL looking to find a pair that I can get more that 1 month out of.Seams like every day I put on another patch. When I cant patch'm no more I get out another new pair. About 1 month is all they advarge.
