May get lucky and get a #1 for Christmas, probably in .308 Win if I do.

What has your experience been with accuracy?

The half dozen I have owned have been excellent, 3/4 to 1 MOA rifles all of them.  I have noticed on the new rifles (of which I have one a 7x57 RSI) the trigger really does need some work.  Even with the trigger as it left the factory, this rifle does MOA with factory loads and 3/4 MOA with handloads.

i love mine but it shoots all over the place at 100 yards.

i dont have the patience or tolerance to tune a $600 rifle that should shoot accurately in the first place so it is going with me to the gun shop and not coming home with me.

I’ve owned 5 No. 1s and I’ve only had one that wouldn’t shoot. It was a 7mm Remington Mag and it was a candidate for hanger bar tuning and a floating forend. I sold it to someone that wanted to play with it so I never got around to doing the work myself.

Right now I own 2 No. 1 Bs. and a V (7mm Rem Mag, 220 Swift, and a 204 Ruger). The 7mm shoots  .5 inch groups with Nosler 150 grain Ballistic Tips, and .75 groups (sometimes a little under) with Sierra 160 HPBT. The Swift shoots at .25-.5 inch groups with Sierra 55 grain HPBTs moving at 3,700 fps.  The 204 shoots under an inch with every shot fired using Hornady factory ammunition, 32 or 40 grain doesn’t make a difference in this rifle.

My 30/06 shoots great (after a trigger job) with 180 gr bullets.
I just had the trigger replaced on my 7mm Rem mag, and it does well,  with 140-150 gr bullets and the proper handloads, but the barrel heats up mighty fast..

I bought a used #1 last yr in .270. It shoots great. 2 shots, 2 deer. (so far). I had to try several different loads before I settled on 1 that performs well. My suggestion is that if/when you get it, buy several different size bullets or reload several different loads and experiment for a while before you make any firm decisions.

Got 4 of them from .22 Hornet to .450 Marlin and all will group under MOA.  A little trigger work helps but outside of theat they are shooters.  Lawdog

Out of my five, only two grouped acceptably out of the box (moa or close).  I gave up on one after 400 shots and sold it.  I tuned two others (trigger, forend bedded with special presure points, buttstock bedded) and they group very well.  I rebarreled one  into a .38-55 Schuetzen rifle.  My last shot well as a .270, but I eventually sent it to Kenny Jarrett for re-barreling to .257 Weatherby, then stocked it myself.  It will still agg in the .4s (five, 3-shot groups) and is my most accurate....also my most expensive Number One.

I've got one in .243 win and It shots .75 with hornady 100 gr btsp's. I haven't tried anything else yet.

It's funny how Ruger doesn't say a word about the accuracy of the Number 1 in their catalog.  It makes you wonder.  
I want one anyway!  A 1B in 22 hornet has been on my wish list for a loooong time.

Excellent choice.   :agree:   I got two.  One for me and one for the wife(she kept borrowing mine).  Our #1 choice for calling and all-around varmint shooting.  Sub MOA and will do the job on Coyotes out to 200+ yards as long as we do our part.  You couldn't have made a better choice.  Lawdog
