Super Blackhawk Hunter owners...those of you with scopes mounted. What specific scopes do you have on your revolvers that all you to still keep your iron sights on and sighted in??? Doesn't look like anything over 2x would work....

I have a Leupold 2X mounted on mine. I chose a 2X because it worked for me and my shooting conditions. It had nothing to do with the iron sights that were already mounted.

I have a Leupold 2x. I am using that to test some rounds for accuracy (I am borrowing this sentence from some body else). I will carry the scope in the shooting bag and mount it if I am in a longer range set up.

why do you say nothing over 2x?? I have a 1.5x4 on mine now and have had a 4x and a 2x6 at various times. I tried a 2x but to me, it made the target SMALLER??!! At 4x I can see the exact spot I want the bullet to hit. Higher magnification helps when working up a new load. I almost always use a rest when hunting and try not to shoot at RUNNING game. I do NOT use iron sights if I have a scope mounted.It is far easier to hold the cross hairs on a deer standing at 50 yards than the front sight,rear sight & deer lined up at the same time.I also gave up on the idea of carrying the revolver as a back up to a rifle.I use one or the other ,not both in the same hunt unless I change guns during a break(lunch or ...) Like as in revolver in the morning and rifle in the after noon.

Jhalcott,
Does your 1.5-4 or previous 2-6 fit on your Hunter without having to alter your iron sights? That is the purpose of my post...to find out. I say only a two power because just looking at the listed scope lenghts, it looks like anything else would make me mess with the iron sights. I want to have the option of taking off the scope and using open sights if I feel the need.

I removed the rear sight and installed a Burris mount . This mount has a saddle that fits around the barrel and a single screw at the rear. It raises the center line about an inch and an eighth above the top strap. This gives clearance for the scope. When I got it I thought it would not hold up to severe recoil,but I was wrong so far. There used to be a product that was called Sight Over Scope that was a set of rings with iron sights on the top halves. I don't know who made them or if they are still available . How do you plan on mounting the scope, to the barrel or the top strap?

I have a Bushnell Elite 2x6 on my gun and have had no problems with it hitting the sights. I also had a Leupold straight 4x at one time and had no issues with that either. If it becomes an issue try getting a higher set of Ruger rings.

i had a leupold 4x on mine an its way too much power so i tock it off an am waiting for a 1-4 too put on it

i have a bushnell trophy 2x on mine. went with what some told me to get on here. mine fits with the iron sights on but when i mounted the scope i had to bottom out the rear sight. that gave me about .010 or so of room from the bottom of the scope and that is with the ruger rings it came with.

Thanks everyone. I ended up getting what I consider a good deal on a NIB Leupold M8 2x20 for $167. At least I know it will fit and should be enough scope for the ranges I will be shooting for awhile.

That's exactly what I have in mine. I also love the fact that I can put it on or take it off as needed without loosing zero to the open sights and iron sights.

DES...That seems like a pretty good price on that scope. Did you get it off of E-Bay? Post some pics when you get it all set up.

Yup, got it on Ebay. The reason for the good price, I believe, is that the guy had it listed under rifle scopes, not pistol scopes.
