Which one do you guys like best for a 270 Hornady SST or Nosler Ballistic Tip? I will be using the 130 gr. for deer hunting.I have heard that they are both extremely accurate. I will be loading them with H 4831 SC. Thanks for your help.

I haven't loaded any ballistic tips in the .270 yet, but I am planning on loading the 140 grn. Accubond in my wife's .270.  I load the 150 grn. ballistic tip in my .308, it's a real killer, very accurate also.  If I were loading for deer instead of varmints, I would lean toward the Accubond in the .270, the ballistic tip is very explosive!!!  If you get into the shoulder, you can plan on doing a bunch of trimming with the ballistic tip.  I plan to start loading either the Accubond or the Interbond in my .308 also.  I haven't had any experience with the ballistic tip in the .270, I've loaded hundreds in the .308, to this date, haven't lost anything hit with it.  We shoot a bunch of hogs, deer, coyotes, etc.  The only drawback I can see with the Accubond is the price, develop a load and shoot varmints with the ballistic tips, hunt with the Accubonds.  I feel they will shoot very close to the same POA.  Have a nice weekend!!!

I've only tried the 130gr BT's in my 270 but have tried the 150gr SST's in my 308. Both are just as accurate. However, I would go for the SST's just to the fact you get more bang for the buck (100 bullets in a box vs 50 bullets in a box).  I prefer the Speer Hot-Cors for my hog and deer hunting as they don't blow up like the BT's and SST's have plus they are just as accurate out of my rifles as the BT's and SST's.

I'm in the process of working up a load with 130gr SST's and H4831 for my Weatherby Vanguard in 270 Win.  Right now with 57.0 gr my 3 shot groups are <1/2" at 100yds.  I haven't tried them at 200 yet, but I have high expectations.

basically, the hornadys are cheaper.   so if you shoot alot you might want to go with them.

that being said,  i am a nosler man.  i love their bullets.  accurate, and deadly.  i shoot 150 grain ballistic tips for whitetails from my 270.  none have taken a step after being hit.   i am running them at a chrono'ed 2900 fps.   i shoot maybe five bullets a year through the gun so i dont mind paying a bit more for the noslers.   i know they work, and will stick with them.   besides,  nosler devoloped the polymer tip bullet,  so i feel they are the original.    there is nothing wrong with hornady bullets,  it is just that the noslers have worked so well i have had no need to look elsewhere.

you cant go wrong with either.

I used the 140 BT's in my 270 mainly because they shot the best of anything I tried. Of the deer that have been taken with them they performed very well but they DO come apart and do a lot of damage which can be good or bad depending on how you view it. The SST's shoot very good out of my 338 and they hold together very well and form the classic mushroom as do the new Accubonds. Out of my 708 Encore the 140 BT @ 2600 did a fine job on a nice muley. I shot a bit low catching the bottom of the heart, but beings the bullet fully expanded before it exited it also pepperd the lungs on it's way through. Exit wound was about 2 1/2" but peppered with jacket. In this case it worked to my advantage. The heart looked like you had simply sliced the bottom 2" verticaly with a knife. The shot was 75 yards away and the buck only walked about 15 yards after being hit.  So if you have the advantage of good heart lung shots the BT's get the nod as they will do alot of damage even at lower vel. If things may be a bit iffy or you are taking shoulder shots or the animals are large and tough go with the SST's or Accubonds. The best thing is to go with what your rifle shoots the best and builds YOUR confidence in accurate shooting and shot placement.

You need to load them both up and try them. In my 30-06 I can't detect any difference in the SST or BT. In my 300 RUM the BT's are significantly more accurate than the SSTs.
