Initial cleaning
« on: April 13, 2005, 03:09:58 PM »
I bought a Pedersoli deluxe rifle from EMF (nice customer experience with them) and I am doing an initial cleaning while refinishing the stock.

I ran wet and then dry patches through it 'til they came clean,  However, if I run a clean copper brush through it, I get a dark black residue that can then be cleaned out with the normal wet solvent patches and then dry patches.  I have been doing this for days.  Am I doing something wrong?  I am relatively certain that I am not damaging the barrell with a copper brush, but this has me stymied.

Comments or suggestions?

You don't say what solvent that you are using.  A nuber of chemicals react with copper and could be causing your dirty patches.  Try using a nylon brush, or just some solvent and patches without the copper brush.

I wouldn't worry too much about this, and would go out and shoot the rifle and then clean it.  It should shoot very well.  Randy
