I just ordered a 209x50. I bought it for muzzleloading, and have no strong desire to use it as a switch barrel, unless the repeatability is there.

If i do use it as a switch barrel it will have to hold zero after switching barrels. I don't want to have to range test each time.

What is the repeat accuracy you have found when switching barrels?

repeatability ought to be good if the action/pin is snug enough. With that being said, I would still want to fire a test round or two just for the grins and giggles...............

I have about 10 contender barrels and 2 frames, With the scopes mounted on the barrels it doesn't even matter if I switch frames poi stays the same. But if you really have no desire to buy more barrels it would be a whole lot cheaper and alot less paper work to buy a dedicated smoke pole.

I have been shooting Contenders and Encores for more years than I care to count. I have switched barrels out and they have held there zero.

Even guns that are not like the Contenders or Encores, I go out and shoot them prior to any hunt. I may only shoot 3 rounds and make sure it is still zeroed. I feel I owe it to the game to make the best and clean shot.

So, if you wanted to hunt deer with the muzzleloader in NY one day, and the next you were off to PA to hunt with the 7mm-08 barrel, would you do it without a test shot?

For me it is just not practical to switch during the seasons and test fire on a daily/weekly basis.

I always check my zero before the season, but not after each "hunt"

I always try to confirm my "zero" before hunting.... just the way I do it.

I'd still feel the need to pick a spot on a dirt mound just after legal hunting hours a mile or two from my hunting spot and confirm my zero. In my situation, that would not be difficult to do as I live real close to the mountains.

If I did not have time, and I knew my gun was on the last time I shot it. I would hunt with it. I shot my guns all the time though, I don't wait to see if my gun shoot right before season only. My guns never sit in the safe, if they do I sell them, no need for a gun I don't shoot. JMHO

That is the main reason I buy quality guns, mounts, rings and scopes. Sure anything can happen, but why take the chance.

But I really like to make sure that the scope is still on.

I count on the fact I can switch barrels. We frequently use Contenders for prairie dogs shoots. I have a series of barrels that have to work on different frames and vice versa. I expect them to be right on everytime as these could be changed a few times in one day.

I have been shooting Contenders for about 15 years and Encores for about 5. I switch barrels and never worry about them being sighted in. Matter of fact I store my frames without any barrels on them. If it is hunting season I pick the barrel I want and put it on a frame. I feel confident doing this because in all the years of shooting these guns I have never had a problem with POI changing, even when putting the barrel on a different frame.

I can't speak for Encores, but if I couldn't freely switch between frames and barrels in my Contenders I wouldn't have any use for them. I have never had a poi change.
