45win or 41 mag

How does the 45win mag and the 41 mag compare in Noise, felt recoil, and muzzle flash when fired out of a T/C contender 10" barrel pistol? Is the 45win mag more like a 44mag in the above areas?

Terry,  I cannot really comment on the T/C part but I have shot both in Autos (.44Mag and .45 WM)and they are very close with the 45WM having a little less perceived recoil (I think). The .41 Mag on the other hand is quite a bit less in reocil and blast then the other two.

Terry,
The .45 Win. mag. will push a 200 gn. bullet at abt 1,400 fps. The .44 mag. will push a 210 gn. bullet at abt 1,450 fps, and the .41 mag. will push a 210 gn. bullet at abt. 1,200 fps. Since for every acyion there is an equal and oppsite reaction it is easy to see that the .44 mag. will have the most recoil ans the .41 mag. the least. Felt recoil though will be the same if the gun they are fired in are the same, but but if you were to fire the .44 mag. in a heavyer gun that was ported, and the .41 mag. in a liter gun that was not it is quite possible the the .41 would have more felt recoil.

Here is a comprehensive list of various loads for 41; http://leverguns.com/articles/41data.htm  , some of them are quite impressive. How about 275 LSWC at 1432 fps from 6”barrel, or 295 LSWC at 1333 fps from 8” barrel? Also, see http://leverguns.com/articles/paco/41magnum.htm and http://leverguns.com/articles/paco/41heavy.htm . If you are concerned about 41 revolver strength, consider that cylinder wall thickness between chambers on Ruger 41 revolvers (Redhawk and SA NM) is about .105”, 23% thicker than on 44. The bottom line is that, properly loaded, 41 is a true big game caliber in revolvers.
