8x68s next project

howdy, I'm new to these sites so bear with me. completed  building 358 norma mag on ruger m77 now ive really got the bug and would like to build another rifle. Iv'e been looking at the 8x68s as an option because it reportedly is on a par ballisticly with the rem. 8 mag  but no belt. I would like your feed back on the round and any suggestins to what rifle to build on would be welcome

I seriously looked into building an 8x68S on a ZG47 action, using a Lothar pre-chambered barrel, but then a Rem700 in 8mmRemMag came along and diverted my interest. Ideally, I'd build one on a commercial M98 action and I'd be looking at a minimum of 24" barrel. Dies, cases, factory ammunition is a pain to locate, so be 100% sure before spending the money to start building.

Hi merrill:  the 8mm Rem Mag  ballistics are about the same as the 8x68s.  

My VihtaVuori Oy data for the 8x68s shows: a 187gn@ 3070'/sec, a 196 gn @3030'/sec and a 200 @2890'/sec.  

For the 8mm Rem Mag Speer shows the 200gn at 2996'/sec; Hornaday shows the 170gn @ 3200'/sec and the 220 gn at 2900'/sec.
