Taurus Total Titanium in .41 Magnum
« on: January 31, 2005, 06:20:10 AM »
Hi everyone!  :D

I have a .41 Mag Taurus Tracker 425 Total titanium, 4" in lay-away. I thought it was pricey ($537   ); but I check the gun and the following observation was made:

1. The cylinder locks up tight when you cock the hammer.
2. No signs of black ring around the cylinder.
3. All pieces seem to fit perfectly and it fees solid.
4. It is awsomly light weight and looks good in my hands.
5. I fell in love with it.

Questions:

1. Am I overlooking something? What would that be?
2. I've never owned a .41 magnum. For what I see in the reloading manuals, it seems that it could be loaded as much as the 44 mag; however, for this light weight gun, what would be the compromisse for a deer load?
3. I know that Greybeard had some problems with his 45 LC titanium. Do you think I should reconsider and cancell the deal?  :?

LJ, Since you have looked over the gun well and everything looks good, it will most likely be a fine gun. The bad ones, in my opinion, are easily and quickly spotted with only a routine once over. I don't think Taurus produces any more dud's than anyone else, they just seem to let more of them get out than the others do....
I say get it, enjoy it, and don't worry about it..... :D

I have your lay-a-way. I have had it for about two years now and it is my primary carry gun. I load this gun to about 1000FPS using a Sierra 210g or a 170g (#s 8520 and 8500). It is a pleasure to shoot at this level and is more than hot enough to do the job of a carry gun.
Love those .41s'

Crawfish,

I've never had a revolver with compensated barrel.  Does it help in any way or it hurts instead?

I think the only person that a compensated barrel hurts is the guy standing next to you at the shooting range...Anyway, let me know how that gun shoots for you...I was thinking of purchasing a Tracker in 357 mag with the compensated barrel for close up and personal whitetail hunting.

Today I brought home the Taurus 425HC4 Titanium revolver in .41 Mag. that was in lay-away.

I can't wait to go to the range tomorrow to try it out.  I will be bringing a box of shells of WInchester sirvel tips 175 Gr and Federal 210 gr factory loads.  After that, I will be setting up to reload.

I tested the Taurus Ti .41 Mag tracker revolver.  I did not punch papers but rather killed tin can at 25 yards.  Right out of the box tin can MOA accuracy.  Both, the 175gr Win Silvertips hp and the Fed 210gr jhp were very strong in the recoil business (not as bad as saying I won't shoot that again; but a little punishing that I would definitely not shoot more than 50 rounds in a sitting.  The revolver was as tight as it was new after the shooting.  So far, it is a keeper!

I'm a 41 guy and I'm getting more and more tempted by the tracker or the real short version for a carry gun.  Like my 357 SP 101 but in bear country I'd like something more potent but comfortable to carry.

I have shot at least 150 rounds of 210 gr and at least 300 rounds of 210 gr cast through it at lower velocities (don't have a chrono, just lower powered loads).

I went from factory loads (very strong) to 9 gr of blue dot under a 210 gr cast SWC bullet.  Now I am settled in 12gr blue dot.  I have so much fan with this revolver and even my 13 year old daughter have shot it (and she liked it).

I did run into a couple of things:

1.  During a long shoot out at the range, the thumb swithc to swing the cylinder open fell down  .  Put it back easily adding blue locktite  .

2.  In another visit to the range, after a number of shots, the cylinder was suddenly hard to spin  .  I checked and it was accumulated lead-gunk from shooting without cleaning for a long time  .  Dusted of the gunk and it was back in shape and ready to shoot again.

Over all, I am still behind this revolver.  I did however thought about the item one above in case this would have hapen in the woods and drop it without notice.  I was easy to operate even without the thumb switch.  The locktite job should keep the little screw in place for goods.

To me, this gun feels like the 44 mag but light weight.
