There was considerable recent discussion regarding whether John Wesley Hardin was a product of his environment, or merely a psychopath.  I think there are some interesting parallels between Hardin and Longley.  Would be interested in your comments.

wild bill was, by accounts, a defender of texas-as misguided as those attemts were. like hardin he was not a clear thinker. his, and hardin as well, thinking, better yet cultural thinking, was as the better part of the souths' was- really non-thinking, sterotypical reaction-acting as he thought he was susposed to act. i see it in many today, in many other ways- acting, in some form or fashion, the way the presume they are susposed to act, without thinking how they wish to act.
