Anyone have a rem 10 gauge?
« on: February 20, 2005, 03:46:30 PM »
Just wondering if they are worth the $. I hope to get one by the end of the year if I can. With my old beat up 12 gauge 3 inch I can take down a duck at 60 yards flying but I can't kill a goose at 20 yards flying with it. The 10s seem to have a lot more knockdown power.

Have one for several years. If there is a use for the 10 it is goose hunting and also makes for a deadly turkey gun. However I've come to think lately that if I can't kill it with a 3 inch 12 then I either shouldn't be hunting it or I'm doing something wrong. I will say though that I think with the largest pellets the 10 is better than the 12 for geese and also because of the weight of the 10 it actually kicks less than the 3 inch 12's I own. In short I really like the Rem 10 for it's killing power on big birds but when I need to raise a gun fast (I'm noticeably slower than with my lighter 12) or don't want to carry the weight around as in turkey hunting I go with the 12.

i hunted turkeys with a 10 ga for years before buying a 3 1/2" 12ga 870 turkey gun a couple of years ago... i'll absolutely  never switch back... the 12 gives almost the same amount of power with a gun that's much much much easier to carry in the woods and hold up for prolonged periods of time... I still own my 10 for geese but there is no question that it's not as good of a turkey gun as my 870.

Deerslayer, If you can kill ducks at 60 yds. with your 12ga. but can't kill a goose at 20yds. the problem is not the gage of your gun. Have you patterned your goose load.

I've owned several 10ga. guns, although not a remington. The ones I owned sure were massive and heavy. You need to be a body-builder to swing one.  Regards, Byron
