336 Rear Sights

Is there any difference between the rear sights on the various models of  336 in 30-30?  I just bought a used one and am not sure of the exact model except that it isn't the stainless one.   The rear sight is gone completely and the hood is missing off the front blade.  I need to order replacements from Numrich.

I know that on the newer ones there is a difference between two of the  models. One is slightly cheaper, and has a very basic adjustable rear sight. The other model has a slightly better adjustable sight that folds flat.

I wouldn't bother getting either. I would put a receiver sight on it.

One of the first things I did when I purchased a used 336 was put a receiver sight onto it.  Lyman works, but the the Williams Firesight FP 94/36 is much better.  

Williams Gunsight has a website that you can order from (google for it, as I don't have the link handy).  

One thing that I would avoid is a tang sight.  I tried on the 336, and if it wasn't for the polycarbonate lenses in my glasses (the "dink" in the lens really torqued off my optometrist too) I would have damaged an eye.  I don't think the 336 has enough distance at the tang to suitably hold one.

Like I said, the Williams Firesight works the best.

I know this is a bit OT, but avoid the tang sights for the 1895 as well.  I bought the Lyman model made for my 45/70 and almost put my eye out with it when I pulled the trigger the first time.  To remedy that brace it with your thumb.  Then the problem came up that the AO/XS front sight I was using was too tall and I could not get a the tang sight up high enough to hit the target at 150 to 200 yards.
