Rem 700 Mtn LSS 7MM-08 First Trip To Range
« on: April 03, 2005, 01:17:17 PM »
Took my new Rem 700 Mtn LSS 7MM-08 to the range for the first time today.  Shot these work up groups of 140 Sierra SPBT Game Kings on top of Varget, with Rem Brass & Fed 210 Primers.

Grn   100Yd Group
39.5..........1.013
40.0..........0.852
40.5..........1.212
41.0..........0.610
41.5..........0.932
42.0..........1.226
42.5..........1.238
43.0..........2.034....(This was definately me..not the gun)

Avg...........1.140

Best group was .610

To say I'm very pleased :yeah:  would be an understatement!  I'd read so much about the 7MM-08 and the Rem 700 Mountain LSS that I was really expecting a lot from the gun and the cartridge.  Well, in my opinion, it lived up to everything I thought it would be!!!!  It's light, easy on the shoulder.....just a real sweet gun to shoot..... and to get a overall group average of 1.140 (including that 2.034 buggerboo) from a barrel that isn't even broken in yet was just a special bonus.

Think I'm gona love this gun!!!!

Try 43 to 44grs. of Varget with the 140 gr. Nosler Accubond. This load shoots between 1/2" and 3/4" in my Rem. 700 LSS mtn. rifle.

John R.

Already picked up some 150Grn Ballistic Tips.  Plan to work up loads for the 140 Acubonds & 140 Partitions as well.

What kind of velocity are you getting out of the 140 Accubonds in your LSS?

Don

The dark squares are 1/2" and the lighter ones are 1/4".  That makes it easy to adjust the scope when shooting at 100Yds.  The group sizes were measured outside edge to outside edge, then subtract .284 for center to center measurement.

Nice group. I've never seen target's like that befor. Actually I make most of my own. I use that same diamond shape and 1" squares w/1/4" div. in them. Where did you find those?

Give the Hornady Light Mags a try too. In mine they shoot pretty near 1/2" groups at 100 yards for the old original 139 BTSP load and a little more with the SSTs. Both are well under and inch and give pretty much .280 Remington ballistics.

Don

I made them up using Microsoft Powerpoint.  I've found that the double hash marks on the top, bottom, left & right really help line up the crosshairs when shooting at 100 Yds with a 3x9 power scope.  At 100 yds the thin crosshairs of a duplex reticle will just barely fit between the hashmarks.  Line up all 4 sides & you're good to go!

Graybeard

Will definitely give them a try!!!  What kind of velocities are you getting with them out of your 22" barrel?  Remington's 280 factory 140 Accutip Boat Tails shows a muzzle velocity of 3,000fps.
