Can a firing pin be too small in diameter?
« on: April 08, 2005, 04:59:20 PM »
I was using a tool post grinder and took 1 pass too many. My Tubb firing pin is now .053. Is this too small. I haven't bushed the bolt yet, so it is easy enough to make the smaller bushing.
Thanks in advance.

I guess that .053 is not too small (at .055 protrusion). I was worried that the small diameter would punch the primer. I am still concerned that the small diameter will fatigue and break.I shot 32 grains of Varget pushing a 162 A-max at 2410 fps and the primers are just starting to fill the pocket ( group 3/8" for 4, 5/8" for 5) 30 fps lower when .015 off the lands, but still a tite group. I did not have 32.5 grains to try. Will do tomorrow.
