Best cast .45ACP bullet?

I just want to get some opinions,what has worked best for you,regardless of lube used in your gun?Did you have to polish the feed ramp any?Thank you,Jeff.

I use commercially cast 200 grain SWCs. These are fine even for precision shooting.  Brand doesn't seem to matter, but one often sees these called H&G 68 design bullets, after the H&G 68 bullet mould.  I've tried the 185 grainers and they're fine too, but the 200 grainers cut a nicer hole.

I have also used swaged 200 grain bullets and they were fine, but the company that made them went out of business.

I didn't have to have the feed ramp worked on, but I got a decent gun to start with. Most of the better guns today won't have a problem with them. Some of the bargain variety guns will.

You can also get 230 grain cast bullets similar to the 230 grain ball bullet. I haven't tried them. But they seem to be the most likely to work in a gun that otherwise might need the ramp adjusted.

flintman - for general purpose plinking and overall shooting I prefer the 230 gn cast ball configuration - it eliminates a lot of potential feeding problems.  If I can't find one of the Hensley and Gibbs style bullets, just about any round nose 230 grainer will do.

Right now, I am very interested in the RCBS Cowboy Astion Shooting bullet number 45-230CAS.  This bullet was designed for the 45 Shofield round and has a wide flat metplat - widest I have ever seen.  Now, if I can just find some I would love to try them in my 45 auto - it would almost be like shooting a 230 gn wadcutter - give ya a nice square hole in the target and act like a semi-wadcutter.  Mikey.

Jeff the single most consistantly accurate bullet ive found in the .45s is the 215 grainlyman .45266 its a discontinued lyman mold that looks like there 200 swc with a bevel base that resembles a boat tail. I dont know why its a dammed ugly bullet but it shoots in everything. The lyman 200 swc is another good one as is the h&g swc and the copys of it lyman and rcbs make. Ive found through the years that a swc us just about allways more accurate then a round nose. But the round noses can be made to shoot and they do run through any gun without problems. I use the saeco and lyman 230 round noses alot but mostly in the 625
