Buy a Gun April 15thby Jennifer Freeman
Probably the easiest way for Second Amendment supporters to make their presence known to Congress is to keep buying firearms. The continued purchase of firearms and firearm accessories sends a clear message to our legislators that: a) firearm owners exist in great numbers; b) they are actively engaged in exercising their rights; and c) any further anti-gun legislation would most certainly lead to unemployment, or worse yet, a real job, for our Senators and Representatives.
Now enter into the fold your mayor, city council members, and county council members. Many of them are attempting to copy anti-gun legislation already in place in major cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York. Cities that were once shining examples of liberty and progress now fall under the control of anti-Constitutional misfits who can't even fill the shadow of a leader. In the face of a widening array of social problems including drug abuse, gangs, violent crime, poverty, broken families and failing education systems, these cities focus on chewing away at the Constitution by coming up with increasing new ways to ban firearms and self-defense. In the meantime, social problems continue to get worse, citizens become even more fearful, and the hope for the possibility of a brighter future seems impossible.
As the issue comes up to ban or restrict firearm ownership at the local levels, it will be decidedly more difficult to pass such laws in a town where gun stores and shooting ranges are thriving financially. Clearly a lone, dwindling range that is struggling to get by is an expendable target for a small-time politician trying to emulate the big city. Successful firearm-related businesses, however, would represent a clear threat to the re-electability of a career-minded politician. He or she would have to be an idiot to pull such a stunt. This does not mean it can't happen, of course.
Buying firearms and firearm accessories en masse at certain significant times of the year, such as Tax Day, is also a way for Second Amendment supporters to demonstrate strength and unity. Clearly a rise in activity of National Instant Criminal Background Checks will raise an eyebrow at the federal level. Those lucky enough to live in a private-party transfer state, may wish to purchase some accessories to go with their new firearms.
