ATTENTION TEXAS HUNTERS!!!!!!
« on: April 11, 2005, 01:19:57 AM »
Under House Bill 326, the new animal cruelty revision, legal hunting would be considered a "Defense to Prosecution". In short, you can technically be jailed and prosecuted under the right conditions if the district attorney, judge, and jury have their way. Rep. Goodman of Arlington authored the bill. This is the equivelant to being stopped by the cops for carrying a weapon on your way to the gun range. It is a statutory defense, but you will most likely be locked up. Texas hunters get the word out through every media you know how. The bill is currently in committee. We are finally seeing the day when hunting is being threatened in Texas and we need to act NOW!!! A weekend with the kids can mean a weekend in jail if the cop does not believe you are actually hunting!!!! WRITE YOUR STATE REP. AND SENATOR!!!!

That bill is not the only one that is in committee. There is HB 590 that went in on 2/22/05. And HB 1962 that went in on 3/14/05. All are worded about the same.

These crazy laws are the residual effect of not fighting the animal rights people when they cross the line in their fight. People take the attitude with the breed specific bans that it's alright because it is the 'crazy pitbulls that are being stopped". Well, it is not, because more breeds are added to the list each year. Instead of making the owners responsible and only the owners, we outlaw the breed. The hog doggers and hog hunters were attacked several months ago and all of a sudden they were on their own to fight this. It goes much deeper than what we see or read in the news. The SPCA and PETA would like to put a stop to all hunting, not just hogs. They are picking their battles and fighting, chipping away at the fabric of the american way. We need to all stand up and be counted, even if you do not live in Texas. The animal rights people went after the NRA and lost. Now they have turnd on bow hunters and if they are not stopped, it will be unlawful to hunt with a bow. THe ball known as the animal rights people is on a roll now and will be hard to stop.

Hunting will not be stopped in texas. If you just stop freaking out and thing straight that cant happen. If EVERYONE in Texas stops hunting for just ONE year , it has proved in studies that the deer population alone would be overcrowded and diseases ,etc would spread and much more worse. Also, the marketing would be hit hard. All the money spent on hunting alone in Texas is crazy. Like in small towns like Llano, Tx all the small shops there make so much money when all the hunters come passing through. I can go on and on how it wouldn't work and in my lifetime, never will.

JR makes a good point about the millions of dollars in Texas alone from hunters and fishermen.  Some small towns only survivie due to the economic boost during the hunting season.  Of course those small towns alone can't protect our hunting rights.  Banding together we can protect our right and heritage as hunters and fishermen.  Knowing how and who to vote for can make a hugh difference, so be informed about the bills and who to contact.   Don't forget to point out the economic disaster that would happen if hunting ever was banned.

The big irony in this bill is that the legislator that authored it, Rep. Toby Goodman, represents Arlington which is my home town. Hunting organizations are huge in his district. I think they need to be aware of what their representative has not only said for them, but also created for them, a side-door anti-hunting bill in my opinion. I received a reply from this rep. and was told the language has been changed to make it more capatable with the Penal Code.  :?:  The Texas Penal Code rarely deals with Parks and Wildlife Code matters such as hunting. My question to his honor is, "WHY IS HUNTING EVEN MENTIONED IN AN ANIMAL CRUELTY STATUTE!!!". And why did the original draft of the bill include this language if there was not intent.  I don't know where this bill came from but when harming a stray cat gets someone a more severe penalty than most human assaults, I smell a person that needs to be elected out of office. Hopefully the good people in Tarrant County will do so come the next election. And as far as a economic impact, I sure alcholic beverages generated heavy revenues but it did not stop our public servants from passing a Constitutional Amendment to outlaw it for many years before it was reinstated.
