group change?

I noticed the other day when I was shooting one of my revolvers that when I would grip the gun a little harder the groups got smaller is this normal :D

Well sure it can make a big difference. However to much of a good thing is bad. There is a book titled THE WINNING GRIP. You can find it on amazon. Easy read and it describes hand gun grip extensively. I try and grip a handgun such that my stronghand fingers are pushing the frame straight back into the space between thumb and for finger. My weakhand is there for support and recoil control. Depending on the gun I would describe my grip as firm but not tight.

If you don't have a proper grip on your handgun, and that includes how firmly and consistently you hold the revolver, your grouping will be inconsistent.  

The barrel will flip on you if the revolver, or auto, is not firmly held in a consistent manner.  I noticed that again this afternoon with a smaller semi-auto.  Once I firmed up my grip the groups were more consistent.  HTH.  Mikey.

Bullseye shooters often say 'the tighter the grip the tighter the group'.  This means pressure on the frontstrap and the backstrap. Pressure applied to either side might negate this however.  I use my weakside hand only to steady a revolver or an auto when using a two hand hold.  The stronghand (read elbow) still absorbs most of the recoil.
