I coulda sworn I saw a turkey strutting out in a field the other day. That's kinda scary. It seems like the turkeys always start early up in my part of PA, a whole month before season opens. They better not get their jollies before season opens... :evil: . Otherwise, desperate measures will have to be taken... :twisted: .  :D

Yep, they're strutting now. I saw gobblers in the snow a few weeks ago that were showing their stuff. Doesn't matter to me though, I only hunt them in the fall, when we can use real guns . . . rifles.

Haha...you're a funny guy. "Real guns"=rifles.

I have a hard enough time taking them with a shotgun. I have yet to have an oppritunity to shoot one never mind actually shoot one. I'll stick to my shotgun for a while, thank you.

So I wasn't losing my mind when I thought I saw that one strutting. Oh well. Can't hunt them for another month so we might as well let em git some done then wreak havoc :twisted: .  :D

Fishman029,

A much more serious reason I don't hunt in the spring is the fact that I can't hear very well and never hear turkeys call, unless they're really close. As you know there are hunters shot at every year by someone sneaking up on their calling. It could very easily happen to me so I choose not to participate. Moral of the story is to always use hearing protection when shooting or else you'll wind up a deaf old guy.

The fall season gives me a chance to get one even though I'm wearing orange. Never seem to get them too close though, this past seasons being about 150+ yds. away.

What kind of rifle do you use? Centerfire? Rimfire?

I thought about taking out my .22 for a lil bit this past fall, but I decided that while also hunting squirrels and rabbits I'd prolly not be able to take a shot at small game, so I just stuck with the shotgun. I know plenty of your type, and it's a sad story. Loss of hearing. That's really not cool.  :(   :D

My son has used the 22 LR but I prefer the centerfires. Got turkeys in the past with 223, 30-30 w/cast bullet and my preferred cartridge, the 22 Hornet. All in T/C single shot rifles.

strutting and gobbling for about 2 weeks now that Ive seen and heard.  By the time May gets here, they will be all tired out :)

That's kinda wut I was thinking. There will be no 'late' spring gobbler. At that point, the gobblers wouldn't respond at all if things are going the way they are :shock: . Even to real hens :) .  :D

Hey Fishman,how ya doin?These turkeys were off the side of a highway and the tom was on the road strutting,so I coulda hit him with my truck but I'll wait till the season starts and TRY to shoot one.I flashed my lights at the oncoming cars and a motorcycle so they would slow down,and some twit not paying attention almost rearended me.But everything worked out ok. :lol:
