SAAMI specifications
« on: December 17, 2008, 07:11:50 AM »
On sxs, o/u and single shot shotguns, does anyone know what the SAAMI specifications are for the head space depth on these types of guns?

Also, is there a SAAMI specification for rim thickness of shotshells as well?

I've looked for this info and can't find it anywhere.

Thanks for the help,

Jim

I don't know if they are SAAMI, but the Lyman 5th Edition of the Shotshell Reloading Manual lists some Maximum cartridge and Minimum chamber dimensions for shotgun shell on pages 404 thru 408. The drawings are a little confusing for the rim thickness because they show a 55 degree bevel between the full rim diameter and the brass (steel) around the case. In the case of a 2 3/4" 12 gauge, the maximum cartridge rim thickness listed is 0.0576" - 0.0140", and the total rim thickness (including the bevel) is 0.072". The minimum chamber dimension (including the bevel) is 0.0716"

Many thanks for that post, that's info I've been years looking for! ;D
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.
