Scope Base/Rings
« on: April 11, 2005, 12:54:37 PM »
Question....I'm new at the pistol thing and put a Leupold base and rings on my pistol.  I put a Burris 2x7x32 scope and find that when cranked up to 7, I have to pull my hands closer in order to get a good sight pic.  I've seen other barrels where people have the Weaver style bases, and I'm wondering if this would be better for the pistol barrel.  Any thoughts from you guys/gals that have more experience at this?

Scope Base/Rings

It has nothing to do with the mount.  Scopes loose something when power is increased.  Burris scopes (my personal favorite) keeps the maximum field of view but the eye relief varies.  Some scopes keep a more constant eye relief but never have the field of view that Burris does.

As for the mounts that is also a matter of preference.  I use Leupold base and rings, but there are many other fine options.  None of my handguns are heavy recoiling, the largest being a 30-30 so two Leupold rings, if mounted correctly, work well.  Some of the big thumpers need three or four rings to keep the scope planted and there are some mounts like these available.

I hope you have as much fun with your handguns as I do with mine!
