Contender 410 Choke Tubes
« on: April 25, 2005, 02:31:49 AM »
Does anyone know who makes the choke tubes used in the Custom 24 in contender barrel.  I have a friend with the custom 24 in 410 barrel that would like to get a modified and improved choke tube for it. Calls to TC and Fox Ridge have been of no help.

You can call till the cows come home and it won't help.  They make one choke, they sell ONE choke, they don't want to hear any other ideas.  In my opinion...it would be a better choke if it was extended past the length of the barrel with a knurled section for easy installation and removal, but the most important fact would be that you could easily recognize that the choke is installed before you accidentally fire a full-house load Jacketed 45 Colt and break the choke and possibly blow-up the barrel.  Yes..it would be good to be carefull that this does not happen...but it DOES happen....probably to EVERYONE eventually.
I am also interested in aftermarket chokes...but have never heard any talk of anyone providing them.

Uh, maybe I read this wrong.  I thought the post was referring to the .410 barrels now being made for Contenders in shotgun length, not the .45/.410 pistol barrels.  I guess I never thought of putting a 45 colt into a shotgun tube.

I don't know about this gun, but my T/C New Englander muzzleloading 12 gauge took the same chokes as my son's Winchester pump shotgun.  Perhaps chokes for a .410 Winchester would work.  If you have a friend at a gun shop you can most likely try it and see if the threads are the same.

I was refering to the dedicated 410 barrel, not the 45/410 barrel. hoping to find someone who has tried the different chokes in one and can advise me.  My local shop does not carry the winchester 410 choke so I can't go that route.
