Exotic Recommendations near San Antonio
« on: August 18, 2004, 02:57:16 PM »
I may be in San Antonio sometime later this year or early next year.  I'd be interested in a blackbuck, auodad, or fallow deer.  I've already shot a few hogs, but wouldn't mind some more pork in the fridge either.  Any suggestions folks?

Kerrville is not far from San Antonio. It is THE exotics capital of the US. Hundreds of places around there. Are you looking for a cheap hunt or a top of the line experience?

will recommend some of the guided hunts offered by Thompson Temple.  He has some really good guides, and alot of ranches to hunt.  I have seen some of the more expensive animals taken by hunters when I have been hunting the much less expensive Rocky Top Ranch.  It is about an hour west of San Antonio,  but like I said, he has many ranches to hunt.  it depends on what you are after and how much $ you have to spend on the hunt.   try    http://www.thompsontemple.texaswildlife.net/

Hi!

Also try Ken Wilson (Sportsman-on-Film).  He has access to many ranches and is very clear about what one can expect from a hunt.  I've hunted with him a lot and will again next year, though I'll book into Indian Head Ranch in Del Rio.  Here's his link: http://www.sportsmenonfilm.com/

Give him a call and tell him that I recommended you!

Graybeard,

I'd like a nice representative of the species and prefer to hunt a bit to get him.  I don't mind booking a few days to get one animal.

Like GB said around Kerrville you have unlimited options. The best way to start is to call some of the Taxidermists in Kerrville. They are familiar with the quality and prices of most of the ranches. You want have to worry about any of the canned hunts I can promise you that. You will hunt for whatever you are after. --------Two of my favorites are The stowers ranch  stowersrch@aol.com 1-830-238-4346 and the Rio Bonito Ranch.  www.riobonito.com 1-800864-4303. You have plenty of time to get set up for the hunt. Good luck-----vernonp
