Saw Uncle Ted hunting with a crossbow on his regular hunting show a few days back.  He was sitting in a large box type blind with two others.  Ted and another guy shot whitetail does with a cross bow and the third guy shot a doe with a compound bow.  I thought it was intersting to see the two types of bows performing the same on the same game and same distances and from the same blind....  I believe it was on the YO ranch in Tx...  Wondered if anyone else saw that show?

I don't know much abuot crossbows yet, but he was using an Excaliber bow..  He repeated it over and over.  The only other hunting show I've seen where crossbows were used was an old Keith Warren show.

I did see that program with Ted. I was suprised to see him shooting one.  I've seen Keith Warren as well.  They aren't legal to hunt with here unless you are handicapped, so I don't own one.

Crossbows are generally only allowed during bow season for hunting by handicapped individuals who are physically unable to use a compound bow or long bow.  Evidently this is not the case in TX.

The development of the crossbow made medieval armor and chain mail obsolete because the bolts (the correct name for the short arrows fired from a crossbow) were capable of penetrating them.

Keith more and more states are allowing them for the general public or at least for Senior citizens too. IN WI it is handicapped and those over 65. As far as I am concerned I think anyone should be able to use them if they want to.

currently in Texas a crossbow can be used by any hunter during the general hunting (firearm) season.  However during the archery only season, they can only be used by someone with an upper body, limb, handicap that prohibits them from using a verticle bow.   Those hunters have to carry with them a doctors note re: the upper limb handicap.

They became legal for everyone during the general season a couple years back, and to my knowledge there has not been any negatives created by this.
