I FINALLY took out a 300 Win Mag barrel that I bought from someone on the forum about 6 months ago. I never fired such a large round before...now I know why they call the 300 Win Mag an "elephant gun" :eek:

Here's my problem:

I have the scope cranked ALL THE WAY to the left, and it still shoots about 2 inches right at 100 yards. I guess that's not such a big deal, since I am getting 1.5" groups, but i will probably put me over 6" right at 200 yards.

Does this mean the mount was not mounted properly? Or could the problem be with the way the barrel was mounted in the frame? I didn't have time to remove the barrel and reseat it, but I didn't think that would matter much.

It's a weaver mount with a Bushnell Banner 6-28 X50.
The scope seems fine. It will move 1/4" for every click to the RIGHT. The guy I bought it from had it sighted in before ( I guess), and never removed the mount.

Scope might not be holding up to the recoil. I would get a steel base and some good rings.

WELL....I have the same problem with ANOTHER gun/scope combo. I just got an L1A1 with a B-Square mount. The scope is cranked all the way to the left, and it is still shooting about 8" right at 100 yards.

I seem to be having terrible luck. I think I am just going to take both sets apart and put them back together. Maybe it will "fix itself"??

On the bright side, I just shot a 223 Encore barrel I bought from someone else on this forum... 5 shots covered by a quarter at 100 yards!

you can aways use some Burris signiture rings with offset inserts to correct out of alignment

sounds like the scope does not have enough adjustment for the barrel. i know some of the "lower" quality scopes will do this from time to time. i would first switch out to the new leupold base and rings,and see if that makes a difference.if not, start saving for another scope.

First thing I would do is remove the rings, scope and mounts and clean everything up. Call it a "do over" remount the base, remount the lower rings, align them, lap them and mount the scope and tops. Reset your scope to zero, turn it all the way one way, count the turns all the way the other way, then go back half way.....just do the windage. Set up the barrel so you can see thru it and line it up with a distant street light. Now match the crosshairs and what you see thru the barrel. This will get you close if you are careful.....my bet is that you can do it and your adjustment will not be completely out one way.

I too suggest the Burris Signature Z rings. The inserts can correct some really major mis alignments with the proper spacers.

I had the same problem but in height.It was a leupold scope and quick release mounts from leupold.Leupold had some problems with some of the mounts and had me to return them and that fixed the problem.Lapping can really help.You can have your mounts 3/10 of a degree out and out at a 100 yards it will make it 30.00" off.Hard to believe but it don't take much at the gun to be off alot out at a distance.Lapping even bad mounts to true them up will do miracles.
