22 Hornet reloading

I was wondering how many of you load/shoot the Hornet and what groups
you are getting with different powder bullet combo's.I have a CZ 527,and I'm loading 13 grs of Lil'Gun,Hornaday .224 45 gr sp,Win cases, and Win SR primers.I took it out to the range yesterday and shot a .85" group at 100 yds. off the bench.Don't have a chrony,so have no idea on velocity, but trajectory is the same at 50 and 100 yds.Just wanted to see what you guy's load and how it performs.Thanks.

I'm shooting the same load but with the 35gr Vmaxs out of my NEF Handirifle, shot a 10 shot group the last trip that measured just under 1" with most of em in ½" but with a few "flyers" which I can't say aren't my fault..... I wanted to know what would happen in colony shooting with the Handi, looks great for 10 sucessive shots, anyway....

ps...bought the barrel from Raynor.....Thanks Doug!!!!

Quick knows I use a load that's pretty much right in between what you are both loading.  13.5 gr Lil'Gun, CCI 400, 40 gr V-Max, 1.935" OAL and a clocked 2750 fps out of a 20" Handi rifle.  That may be a little too long in your CZ.

I didn't shoot any real good 5 shot groups the other day, with one at 1.375" and one at 1.625",.  However, I just remembered I can switch to a receiver with a lighter trigger, so maybe the gout in my trigger finger won't act up so bad next time.

I get better results with Winchester 296 than LilGun in my CZ 527 American .22 Hornet. I have shot one hole groups at 100 yards with it and 35gn Vmaxs.

13.2 grains LilGun
Federal benchrest primers
40 grain Vmax
5 shot groups less than MOA from an Encore rifle
My rifle likes the 40 grain Vmax bullets
Have not chrony'd yet

I also have had better luck with 296, better consistancy that is. In my K-Hornet I use 11.5g 296, WSP, WW Brass, Hornady 40g V-Max and out of my 15" Bullberry it runs around 2720. Best group to date is three targets five shots each for a total group of .29 @ 50 yards.

Duffy, whats your overall length for those 40 gr. v-maxes? Or more importantly, how much of the bullet is in the neck? The 40s in my contender dont come even close the the lands. So far i cant get them to group in my factory 14"er. I hav'nt given up yet though! :D

Thanks for the replies.I may have to try some 296 to see what it does.I am happy with the Lil Gun and I'm going to try to cut down the group size a little, after reading what some of you guy's are getting  .I may have to look into some lighter bullets also, but I always sway to the heavier bullets in all the firearms I load for. Thanks for the replies.

Tad,
I get the best accuracy .025 off the lands with my Bullberry bbl. I know this goes against the grain on the .010 or less rule but that's what works. My OAL is 1.903 and that leaves around .100 in the neck. Now remember this is a K-ed Hornet. Also don't be afraid to try small pistol primers of different brands. My factory bbl also shot it's best at around .030 off the lands. I don't know if it's just me or what, but I get better consistancy, accuracy, plus more vel when I seat them farther back and that goes for all my bbls. You might even try the Nosler BT's or the round noses,(hornets) they have a fatter ojive and seat longer with more in the case. Also a few tenths of a grain of powder makes a difference. If I load these up to 11.8 instead of 11.5 they run around 2820 but the groups also open up some. The hard fast rule is......theres no hard fast rules. :)
