209x45 encore barrel
« on: April 24, 2005, 11:41:23 AM »
I just got a nice 26 inch 209x45 barrel.
It came with several powerbelt bullets
I am in need of a load for them.

I am thinking about using a starting load of 100 gr of black powder.

would this be a good starting point

I really doubt that an Encore barrel is long enough to burn 100 gn. of BP, but if your looking for a hunting load you could start there and work up and down for accuracy. With BP you will not be able to blow the gun up unless you put in several bullets. With 1 bullet and to much powder you will just lower your velosity and increase recoil. Well you`ll through alot of fire also. I would guess that you`ll get your best accuracy some where between 80 and 100 gn. of BP.

I use 2 777 pellets with powerbelts in my 209x50... certainly the simplest load and cleans up with water.

I got a Encore 45 cal M/L for my son. I could not get the power belts to shoot well out of it. I got the 195 gr. Barnes Expanders and they shoot 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. I am using 100 gr. of Triple7 and a 25ACP breech plug in it.  All the powder is shot up in the 26 inch barre.  :D

rickyp, by all means give the power belts a try. Just because I could not get them to work does not mean you can't.  :D

I use 100grns 777 with the powerbelts in my 209x45 G2 and it shoots great.  The power belts load alot easier in the TC barrels.
