I want to buy a chrony. My wants are to be able to set up on a camera tripod or like device. To be able to take the reading (shot and ave/string) with a remote( don't want to have to get from the bench to the (what evers) to take a reading).
I want to be able to measure the velocity of my reloads and compare to factory for same reload. At this point I am not interested in a printer or large memory of the chrony.
What does this board advise, in product and options?

Another vote for the Chrony. Got mine many years ago and it still works perfect. If I ever shoot a hole in it, I'll buy the Beta Master Chrony.

Don't overlook other brands. They all work quite well and are priced according to features. I also have an Oehler. Very nice device but just the basic box costs more than 3 or 4 Chrony Beta Masters.

Suggestion for a tripod: I picked up a used folding music stand at a yard sale. Cost me $2. I took the sheet music top off and rigged a 1/4X20 screw in the center post. It folds up nice and works real slick and fits in my range box. If I should shoot it by accident, I'm not out much.

Amusing note: The catalogs used to list the Chrony's by Master Alpha and Master Beta. They since changed.

Walley World has camera tri-pods for about $17.00 and extend out a very very long way...and compact down nicely too...best of all the quick detatchment clips bolt right on to the Chrony and work great...mine is the model# MX 1000...

Another vote here for the Chrony Beta Master - had mine for about 6 months & am quite happy with it. I too use a camera tripod I picked up 25 years ago with my Minolta XG-1....definitely got my money's worth out of it over the years.

Thanks for your reply's I took it to thought, along with some input from the range people and ordered a Pact. I have there digital scale-dispenser for powder and have been happy with the quality and c/s when I had questions.
This will be a new experience for me in years of reloading.

For the penny pinchers: Chrony F-1 factory refurb from shootingchrony.com direct- $49.95. Only thing is it will not upgrade, which for me has not been a problem in over four years. Can read the display just fine at 15ft. It, its tripod and an extra battery stay in a shoulder bag with the spotting scope ready to go any time.

Don't be afraid to wander through your local thrift stores or salvation army stores for tripods or somthing to make into one. You get a bargain and help them out too.

I have a pact works great the only thing I would do different try to find a used transit tripod the cheap camera ones are flimsy you knock them over you break em You would have to make some kind of adapter for a transit one for mounting the screens

Have a Italian made HD tripod, the x picked up for me, almost as sturdy as a tripod for a level. It should work can't wait for the Pact to arrive and get to work with it.

Everyone recommended the Shooting Chrony (and I would have also, except I use the Gamma Master), and you selected the Pact?

It seemed to me every one was interested in $$$. I went to the Pact as I have there scale and dispenser, and I am well satisfied with their product. Too more directly answer your ? I was looking for nays rather than yeas, my fault should have worded it correctly. What do you use now and what did you used to use?
